Do you select a kick returner based on speed or overall kick/punt return rating?

There is a difference.  The returner that is the default no. 1 on the depth chart isn't necessarily a team's fastest guy.  It takes the three A's to be a great returner in the NFL - awareness, agility and acceleration.  But in Madden it seems it's more about flat out speed.

I actually prefer to use a mid 90's speed w/ a decent overall return rating.  It seems like the guys that have high 90's speed are tougher to control and you often catch them over-running their blockers, especially on shorter kicks which you see a lot online.  With my Dolphins I use Chris Chambers for return duties and can break one all the way back every couple games.

Go for speed and get to the outside.  Of course I may be a little spoiled since I use the Bears and Hester as a returner, but I think agility the overrated stat for a kick returner.  You almost always have to make somebody miss to run a kick all the way back, it's very rare you'll be able to flat out run the coverage even with a 100 speed.

Right on.  Do you play online?  Just wondering how people change their kicking game when kicking to Hester?  I kick normally to him but I could see a good amount of people trying to catch ya off guard with him.

I usually just go for speed and head to the outside like DaBears said. It seems easy if you get a Kick Return where you have really good blocking and it is easy just to explode down the line for a quick TD.

Put your fastest guys in with speed and acceleration before overall rating for returns.

Kick return strategy thats sure to help improve your return game
